Live Bold, Live Free, Live for the Moment

written by Prateek Raj

Creativity is a wonder. It has an enigmatic charm. It’s is one with a million faces. You seem to understand it, but then it shows a yet another dimension. It can bring people from rags to riches, and turn the sane, insane.

Being creative is so easy, yet very difficult.Thousands struggle to make a mark in this world with their creative flair, but there are very few who make the heads turn. And there are few, who give masterpieces, one after the other, in a short span of their careers. So what is it that makes someone creative, and what is it that many people miss out?

Most of the world tries to be creative, while the creative folks effortlessly flow in it. Let’s try to explain the difference this way. When you breathe, do you order your lungs to do so. No you don’t. It is a reflex action.

Similarly being creative requires no effort. It is essentially effortless, mindless. Like flowing in the river. That’s the reason the best pics are snapped when accidentally. The best music is not made in a jam session, but in the noisy busy street.

These accidents are never actually accidents. This is effortlessness. Flowing in creativity. Once somebody gets a hang of it… he can do it each time. As then seizing the perfect moment, is as effortless as breathing. You don’t need to put your mind into it, or plan for it.

Now the question arises, how can one be effortless? And the answer is simple….

    interesting way to look at creativity.
    I agree with you and I think my best collection is by ‘accident’.

    Creativity is creation of new ideas.
    Sometime great ideas come out of discussion and not by accident or roaming around. A group of people having a conversation over dinner or something and the topic of discussion changes like anything. Many a times this drift leads to creation of great ideas, though may not be implementable but they are great ideas.
    Also, sometimes wonderful ideas emerge after admiring an art piece, like the other day when you were watching the movie Moulin Rouge, it gave you idea, a very creative idea of Montmartre project. As you can see this is one of the biggest driving force in your life at this moment.

    Creativity is not always by accident but can emerge from any where. So start paying attention to yourself, you might come across something interesting.. :)

    That’s why I said, accident is no accident. This is effortlessness. A man with a creative sight can extract great ideas from even a dustbin(what to say about Moulin Rouge), while a person driven by mechanistic algorithm, may not find inspiration from even the Taj Mahal.

    It’s all about inspiration, and from where you get it. A creative person gets that effortlessly from anywhere.

    Its a very bold topic you have chosen to write on Prateek. I am lucky to have you writing here. While you certainly have an intuition of what creativity means, if you hear Marcel Duchamp’s speech from ‘tou fait’ (meaning any) you will find striking similarities between what you feel and what Duchamp artculated in great detail and highly tersely.

    P.S. like you Duchamp beleived in art and creativity, not medium. :)

    @Sweta
    Thanks for your comments. It feels nice to hear some encouragement.

    @Samar
    Thanks for being so generous and calling yourself luck. [:)]. It’t my pleasure to write here.

    I wrote what I felt. I have pondered at times, how new songs, tunes, lyrics start floating in my mind. My experience says, better works come when you are effortless in your work… when you just let it happen… Following bookish methods, “tested” techniques, “pro” advice, till this time hasn’t given me any inspiring, elating work. There always remains an artificiality, a sense of non-originality.

    It is not as if these techniques and advice aren’t useful, but then there are two things that must be kept in mind… the advice that works for some great artist, may not work for you(all are not apples, some are oranges too), secondly even if the advice is great, it takes time to become a reflex action i.e effortless(the technique is instinctive for the pro artist).

    But definitely practice is very important… It makes you better… So is reading, listenting, meeting good people… it keeps you inspired and burning. [:)]

    I believe creativity is effortless once you have reached the level of thinking and perceiving things in your own unique way and this unique way is such that it astounds everyone!
    Good article atleast you are making people think (even the sardars!)
    And yeah from the article i can see what you mean when you say “make laze your gold.” :D
